Drug and alcohol abuse, we hear about it everyday. Whether it be on TV, radio, newspaper or on the internet, we are bombarded with stories about shootings, robberies, drug trafficking and gang activity going on in our neighborhoods. But what is the true Impact on Society, do we count it by the money we spend to combat it, by the lives lost and the communities destroyed by it.

In this article we will discuss some of the true impacts on society that drug and alcohol abuse have. To start, over 40% of violent crime in the United States has its roots in drugs or alcohol. Whether it be from gang activity, trying to claim territory, or gang wars over turf, from addicts committing crimes to be able to continue their habit. Add into that the number of families destroyed by this horrible disease, and the continued decline of major urban areas, due to the ever increasing numbers of gangs and drug runners. The costs to this country, from the DEA on down, is in the Billions, plus the costs of lost labor, and to the health care system, you are in the range of a Trillion dollars, or more that most countries GDP. If this wasn’t enough, there is also the costs associated with rehab, and trying to start programs for inner city youths, to help them off this path.

Of course there is no way to completely calculate the true cost of it all, but one only has to look at major cities such as Washington DC, Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago and Los Angeles to name a few to see the destructive impact on society that drug and alcohol abuse has from individual homes to the country at large. There is help out there, a large sum of money is spent every year to get you the help you need, just take the time to find one of the thousands of trained councilors to help you to add to society, than to be a negative influence.

One of the biggest problems in getting people the treatment they need is to know what the signs and symptoms of drug or alcohol addiction is. But, how do you find out what these are, and how do you decide that you meet the criteria of addiction. In this article, we will discuss the various Signs and Symptoms of drug and alcohol addiction, how to measure yourself up to this list, and if you meet the criteria, to find the help you need. Many of the Signs and Symptoms of drug and alcohol addiction are mostly rooted in common sense. Most times and addict will not even know that they are doing something dangerous to themselves and the ones around them. One of the biggest signs of addiction is the fact that the addict is unable to stop, even though they know that the consequences of their actions will have a negative impact, whether that is to their health, relationships or job. Another Sign or Symptom of addiction is the compulsion to use the drug no matter if they have the resources to do this or not, most of the time an addict will end up stealing to continue their habit. One other very big sign of addiction is the physical need for the substance they are abusing, that is if they stop using it, the body goes into withdrawal symptoms, that many times can send the addict to the hospital, and in certain cases, kill them.

One of the most difficult and terrible things in life is if you are watching a loved one show all the signs and Symptoms of addiction, and trying to help them realize that they have a problem, and they need to seek help. With all of the resources out there today, should it be the internet, books or other media, there is no reason to battle addiction alone. Contact one of the highly trained councilors that can deal with your needs and get you back on the path of being a healthy and productive member of your community today.

Addiction, we hear about it everywhere, but where does it come from, what causes addiction, and why does it seem to run in families? One of the causes we will be discussing in this article is something known as Addiction Genetics, or what seems to connect all these family members together in this horrible, debilitating disease known as addiction. Once you know what might cause your addiction, it is hoped that you will be better prepared to defeat this scourge of our country today.

Addiction Genetics is just really being researched across the country now, while it has been known for some time that if one of your parents were addicted to drugs or alcohol that you would be more prone to addiction yourself, it was really never known if it was genetic or environmental. With the most current research today, it is now known that there are several genetic markers that cause a much greater propensity to addiction. While this is not the only cause, the addiction genetics make it easier to test children that come from broken homes from addiction, and to be able to help them deal with these problems early on, hopefully keeping them off the path of self destruction. And with more research on the subject, and with advances in genetic engineering, there is the hope for a cure to this disease in the not to distant future.
With all that has been discovered about Addiction Genetics, there is much unexplored about this subject. As more is researched and discovered about the links between Genetics and the various addictions that plaque America today, hopefully more specific treatment courses and drugs can be developed to help. As is the case now, always look for information as to what is effecting you, and give one of the thousands of trained councilors a chance to help you onto your path of recovery today.

One of the most common problems plaguing today’s society is addiction. The rising trend continues to be a nuisance, not only to the addict themselves, but also to friends, family and the community. Drug and alcohol addiction is the reason behind many of today’s incidences of crime, murders, rapes, domestic violence, suicides and child abuse. Understanding addiction and what happens to a person that causes them to not care about any of the negative and life devastating effects of addiction means understanding the fact that addiction is a disease. Addiction is not a choice or a matter of willpower. Once an addiction forms, the only true saving grace is seeking help from a licensed treatment facility.

No one wishes to become an addict or junkie when they grow up. Addiction is formed from a series of events and a long list of bad choices and decisions. Making the decision to take drugs or drink alcohol initially is up to the individual, but with chronic and regular use, the decision is taken out of the person’s hands as the body and brain begin to change structurally to accommodate for the drug’s presence. These physical changes inside of the brain are what cause the intense, overwhelming cravings that occur when the person tries to stop using their substance of choice. The need for the drug or alcohol is so powerful that it takes over every thought process. Obtaining the substance and using it becomes top priority above all else. Nothing else matters. Eventually, the signs of withdrawal will begin. The painful and traumatic symptoms can be overwhelming and even dangerous. Because of the intensity of withdrawals, getting help from a licensed rehabilitation facility is the safest route to overcoming addiction.

As addiction takes control of a person’s life, they begin to change. No matter who they were to begin with, a drug addict is the best liar in the world, especially when they are trying to hide their addiction. They try to be a different person for whoever they are with at the moment, but eventually the lies and deceit will come out. This results in broken relationships, divorce, loss of jobs or careers, financial and legal troubles. No one can hide an addiction forever. Eventually, addiction will suck their life away and they won’t recognize who they are or their life anymore.

Making the choice to take back control of your life from addiction can be a huge step towards recovery. The journey to recovery is one that is life altering. You will relearn how to make the choices and decisions to lead you to a better life and more successful future. Recovery from addiction is relearning who you are and finding out what you are truly capable of when you let go of the drugs and alcohol. We are here to help you learn to take control of your life and your recovery and heal the years of damage done to every aspect of your life. Let us help you find your way to a successful recovery.

When a person looks at their self, they do not see a person addicted to drugs or alcohol. They think they are just having fun and there is nothing addictive about them. But when that person’s life starts to fall apart around them, the people they care the most about have gone and all they see is people that are using drugs and alcohol around them, they then will start to look at their life and ask the question how do I know I need help for addiction. This question is very broad and can only be dealt with by first looking at your specific addiction problem. Ask yourself these questions:

Do I drink or use drugs daily?

Do I need drugs or alcohol to start my day?

Do I use drugs or alcohol to the point of not knowing what I have done?

Do my family and friends think I have a problem?

Does my world revolve around getting high?

Does my world revolve around other people that use drugs?

If you answer yes to these questions or even some of these questions your answer to knowing if you need help for addiction is clear. You can stay in denial and think that your drug addiction or alcohol addiction will just stop on its own, but it won’t. It is very difficult to conquer a drug or alcohol addiction and the side effects that accompany it without professional help. A drug addiction or alcohol addiction can be very intense with the withdrawal from these substances. Don’t be fooled. It is not easy but it is possible, and it is the best decision that you will ever make to stop your addiction.

The staff at any drug and alcohol rehab facility will be there to help you through the tough times you will have to face. You will have a support team that will help you get through your addiction. Just let the caring staff of a Drug and Alcohol treatment facility help you to get back on the right track.

When you are dealing with the addiction to drugs and living every day knowing that you are addicted, it can be very devastating. Every drug addict will learn a hard lesson and that is that living with drug addiction is hard but the drug addiction will not let go of you without a hard fight. The process to drug recovery is a long struggle, but it is a struggle worth fighting because in the end, you can overcome your addiction to drugs.

It is now believed that drug addiction is not just an addiction, it is a disease. Individuals addicted to drugs are victims of their dependency to drugs. This drug dependency has occurred because of life situations that the addicted individual could not handle and they sought refuge in drugs. Dealing with the addiction to drugs has became so overwhelming, and the life problems are still just as much there now as they were before drugs. So you are in a state of thinking what has happened? Why did I do these drugs it didn’t make anything better? Then you realize nothing is better everything is really so much worse because now you have a drug addiction.

The brain holds the key to drug addiction and that’s why it is so difficult to start the process of dealing with the addiction to drugs. Drugs are used as crutches for people that are addicted to them. They rely on them from the time they start their day all the way through the day to keep that endless high. This makes an individual that has a drug addiction believe that there is no life for them except a life with drugs.

There is life after drug addiction and this life can be a very fulfilling, productive and carefree one even without drugs. Drugs do not hold the key to your future, you do. So start today and put your life back in the hands that can help lead you out of the drug addiction. Start looking and see the light at the end of that tunnel of addiction and come clean with a new drug free life.

Professional drug treatment centers are waiting to help you. They can explain everything you need to know and get you out of the drug addiction and back to a promising life. Call and let us help you today.

Many of the key players in the drug world can be described by using the term “Opiates.” Opiate is a broad range category that includes Heroin, Morphine, Thebaine, Codeine and Papaverine. The drugs that are included in this category are there because their primary ingredients are derived from the Opium Poppy plant. While many of these drugs are used effectively in the medical world as painkillers, they are all highly addictive and destroy the lives of many everyday.

Many people that suffer from the overwhelming effects of Opiate addiction started out simply treating a medical condition. The problem is that with regular use, the body becomes dependent on the drug. Once a dependency begins to develop, so does tolerance. Once a person’s tolerance for the opiates has increased, it takes more of the drug for it to be effective. This is where an addiction begins. Before the person has even realized what has happened, they try to discontinue or lessen their use of the drug and find that they are having withdrawal symptoms.

Withdrawal symptoms from Opiate addiction can be painful and uncomfortable, much like having the flu. In fact, the user may have many symptoms that seem very flu-like. The body will crave the drug and make the person want to focus solely on obtaining it to stop the pain from the withdrawal symptoms.

Overcoming Opiate addiction, particularly Heroin addiction, can be a struggle. The best way for a person suffering from an Opiate addiction to find themselves again and take back control of their life is to seek the help of licensed addiction counselors. Many rehab facilities can provide the pathway to a sober lifestyle through the help of an effective treatment program.

There are several steps that are included in an effective treatment program for overcoming Opiate addiction. To start with, no type of therapy can begin while the body is still under the influence of any mood or mind altering drugs. Once the person has safely completed detox, then the healing can begin using a unique combination of spiritual or faith based therapies and group and individual Cognitive behavioral therapy. Once the client has successfully completed the treatment program, a 12-step program is incorporated to help maintain a sober lifestyle.

Opiate addiction destroys the lives of millions everyday here in the United States and the numbers continue to grow. Letting Opiate addiction continue to ruin your life and carve a path of destruction in your relationships, finances and career can stop today. Our knowledgeable addiction counselors are here to support you as you find your own way to an addiction free life. Take back control of your life from the hands of Opiate addiction. Make the choice to find a life of freedom and relief from the lies and chaos of addiction.

Addiction abuse is a chronic and relapsing disease of the brain that is brought about by the compulsive drug use and drug seeking regardless of the harmful effects it has. Drug Abuse is considered to be a disease of the brain because of the changes that it has on the brain, the structure of the brain and how the brain works. The changes that take place in the brain can lead to behaviors that last a lifetime and can also be harmful to the addicted individual.

The reason individuals abuse drugs can vary from one individual to the next, but here are the most common reasons of drug abuse:

They make you feel good by producing the intense feeling of pleasure. Cocaine makes you feel high with confidence and energy. Heroin makes you have feelings of being satisfied and very relaxed.

They make you feel better. People that suffer from anxiety in social situations, have stress related problems or even depression use drugs to make these feeling “go away”. They think that taking these drugs makes them fit in, because they feel better about themselves.

They make you do better. People think that these drugs make them to better in sports or just in their everyday performance in general. The drugs give them a sense of boosting their ability to perform things at a faster and more effective level.

Curiosity. Everyone else is doing drugs. Peer pressure is also one of the reasons that someone starts the use of drugs. They see others and the thrilling behavior from them and want to join in.

Being involved in drug abuse, you might think that all of these things are untrue, but logic will set in and the drug abuse will set in and lead you to a road of total destitution. You do not need drugs to make you feel good or make you feel better or make you do better and certainly not because someone else is doing them.

After a continued amount of time in abusing these drugs, the pleasurable feeling will go away and the drug use will continue just to make the individual feel normal be cause it has taken over the brains normal function and led you into drug abuse. This will have put you into the situation of taking more and more drugs to get the feeling that you once had from just one dose. Taking that first drug can lead you straight into drug abuse and addiction.

No matter what the substance is, the effects of abuse can be far reaching. Abuse of any kind ultimately leads to addiction and the uncontrollable cravings that come with it. Substance abuse usually begins as a way of self-medication or a means of escape from emotional or physical trauma. Regardless of the reason, in the end, chronic drug abuse can only have bad results for all involved.

As substance abuse continues and addiction grows, the individual begins to lose all control of their ability to stop using. No matter what hardships or negative consequences happen to them because of their problem with drugs or alcohol, they will not quit. In fact, all of the negative things that unfold because of their addiction will begin to feed into their substance abuse problem. They have no control over what they do as the physical changes occur in the structure and function of the brain.

As the addiction and abuse problems continually get worse, the negative effects will continue. Way of life goes down hill as financial stability declines, relationships with family and friends are damaged or destroyed, and many may end up losing their job. Sadly, it is usually the family of the addict that suffers the most as they have to endure the embarrassment, lies and hardships that substance abuse can bring.

The first step to overcoming abuse and addiction is to admit there is a problem and seek help from a rehabilitation center or licensed addiction counselors. Our experienced and compassionate staff can help you find the treatment plan that can lead you to a successful recovery. Take back control of your life and begin healing the years of damage that has been done by years of abuse and addiction. Dare to imagine a life without the lies and deceit of substance abuse. Remember, the effects of abuse are all negative. Nothing good can come from substance abuse for anyone involved.

In the minds of many, Drug Addiction Treatment and Alcohol Treatment are completely unnecessary. Many, even the addicts themselves, do not understand why it is necessary and this is simply because they lack the knowledge and understanding of what addiction really is. Many make the initial choice to use drugs or alcohol whether it is because of curiosity, experimentation, self medicating or for some other reason, but once addiction has formed and takes over, there are no longer any choices available except getting addiction treatment.

The effects of addiction on the brain and body are complex. Addiction will actually cause the structure and function of the brain to be altered to the point where using the drug or alcohol is necessary to help ward off the powerful cravings and excruciating withdrawal symptoms. No matter how bad the negative consequences of substance abuse and addiction become, the addict will continue using. Because of the changes that occur inside the brain, we now understand that addiction is not just a matter of choice or willpower, but is truly a complex and compulsive disease that requires treatment that not only addresses the addiction and substance use itself, but also addresses the causes behind the addiction and how to change them.

Any form of effective treatment will require detoxification before any form of healing can begin. Detoxification can be a dangerous and overpowering process that is quite painful as the body begins to rid itself of any remaining toxins that are in the system. The cravings that can result during drug treatment are overwhelming and the withdrawals are painful and traumatic. For this reason, many rehab facilities now offer the option of medically assisted detox to help ease the trauma that is experienced. Going into drug treatment prepared and with an understanding of what to expect can help increase the chances for a successful detox and recovery.

Drug treatment primarily consists of a number of group and individual behavioral therapies and counseling sessions. In these sessions of therapy, counselors and other trained and knowledgeable staff will help educate the addict about addiction, its negative effects and how to avoid making the same bad choices again that caused the addiction to occur to begin with. Therapy also helps with healing damaged relationships with loved ones and also with dealing with all of the anger, shame, guilt and remorse that are left behind by addiction.

Healing from a complex and overpowering disease such as addiction can take a lot of time and patience. Nothing positive can from a life of addiction. Seeking drug treatment, whether it is inpatient, outpatient or residential, is the only way to find healing from addiction. When you are ready to make that choice and that all-important first step to seeking help, our staff of counselors are here ready to help you find the treatment that you need.
